@JP Thanks for following up. It's good to know that O2 do act on customer requests and that O2's presence on Twitter really is adding benefit to customers, even if I've not actually received any benefit from it. I was aware of the Fair Deal policy which is why I got quite annoyed at the difference in price. As it was I had a few hours of my time wasted and I still need to cancel my old contract, get a PAC code, and transfer my old number onto my new phone, but at least it gave me something to whinge about :-).

As expected my phone was delivered and I wasn't home. However, I did get my phone the next day from a locally delivery office/home. The O2 XDA Serra [really need to get a good affiliate text link ;-)] (HTC Touch Pro) is a seriously great piece of kit.

Hi Phil
My name's JP and I'm part of the O2 PR team. I saw your post and have been investigating what went wrong when you tried to upgrade to an O2 XDA Serra.

First of all I'd like to apologise for the price difference – this was an error on our part. Under our Fair Deal policy, upgrading customers should always get the same offers as new ones, and you should have been offered the same price without having to start a new contract. We have corrected the price now so it won’t happen again. This error also led to the bad experience you had in store, for which I also apologise.

Did you get your phone from the delivery office? For new contracts we send phones to the registered home address as part of our security checks. As you noticed, this changes when you are upgrading. It’s an important step to protect against fraud, inconvenient as it is for you.

Thank you again for bringing this to light and I hope this post has clarified what happened and why.

If you have any queries or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thanks
