I’ve just updated my Synaptics touchpad drivers and after a restart the scrolling no longer worked. I did the obvious, check the settings and “do a google” but could not find the solution anywhere. I then went back to the settings and then noticed a sub-settings option for the touchpad in the Device Settings tab. Select Synaptics TouchPad and then click the Settings… button. A further properties dialog will appear with a Virtual Scrolling option. Select this option and then enable your scrolling.

Thank you so much! I just got my laptop yesterday and the scroll stopped working out of the blue, I thought I broke it or something! Thank you SO much!

Have the same problem but it will not let me tick either verticle or horizontil scrolling. Would appreciate any advice.

@Damian – I’ve updgraded both my machines to Windows 7 and I didn’t need to install the drivers again. All I can recommend is ensuring that you have the latest version of the drivers. Sorry I can’t be of any more help.

Phil- I have an HP pavillion DV9000. Over the past two months I have had this annoying little box pop up directly above my system tray asking me if I want “hp to check for updates”. Yesterday I finally clicked it and after it was complete, my scrolling ability was gone. I have checked my driver, I have checked to see that my device is working properly. I have even gone into program files and tried to reinstall. I looked at your pictures and found that I cant get into the subsettings, enable or disable, because there is no device listed in the box. How do I get my device to list onside the box under Mouse Properties????

@James – Sorry for the delay in replying. I would download the latest drivers from Synaptics and then see if the options that I’ve mentioned above are present.
