Hi Sigit,

I've just had a hunt around for any disks associated with the NW9440 and all I could find was the docking station disk. I think the disk for the laptop will be stored away with the packing deep in a cupboard that I can't get to without rearranging an entire room. If I get a spare hour over the weekend I'll see if I can find them.

Sorry I can't be of help straight away.

Hi Phil,

I have been having this HP nw9440 for 3 years in dual boot modes (Window and Linux). My internal disk is crashed, so basically now I am trying to install the Linux RedHat and Windows as well. Installing window is done. But all the USBs do not work when I am in Linux mode now.

I remember that when I bought this computer it came with HP Driver CD for Red Hat Linux, in which I lost mine.

By chance, do you have that CD with you so that I can fix the problem of my laptop. If you do, you can always upload it into a website that i can download it.

Appreciate your help.

Cheers,
Sigit

ZORKO

I have nvidia drivers version 7.15.11.6758 dated 02/01/2008. I've no real experience of trying to run games as I use the laptop mainly for work. Since installing this driver I don't remember having any real troubles but I guess I've not really been working the graphics card all that much.

I have the same machine as you and I'm running Vista Ultimate (clean install). It runs fine most of the stuff but for games is next to useless.
I would be interested to find out more about driver installation you did and how it performs particulary in games.

Thanks.

I managed to install Web Server 2008 on my NW9440 (Quadro 1500m 256MB). I has gone eerily well. It even runs Quickbooks 2007 plus & I've got all the Aero turned on (I have 2 batteries).

I even got Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite running - its only complaint was at installation when it warned that they do not support servers but it all went fine anyways.

Use the latest certified drivers from the NVidia site, forget about the credential manager and don't use the latest Synaptics driver - it disables the PS2 port. Use SP35309.

I left the MS drivers as-is for all the networking, wireless and otherwise.

It's do-able. I did it from scratch though.

Bluetooth is a project I'm saving for later.

Peter - I would have thought that you would be able to uninstall it since it is only a piece of software. You should be able to do this through Add/Remove programs (in XP) which can be found in your Control Panel. If it can't be found there then maybe try running the credentials manager installer again and see if it give you the option to uninstall it.

As far as I remember I uninstalled it the normal way that you uninstall things in Vista; through the Programs & Features console.

Phil:

Thanks for this I'm trying to "upgrade" an HP 8510w to Vista Ultimate and the Credential Manager locks me out when I do. Do you know how to remove the credential manager or circumvent it? The only sure way I see is to do a clean instal rather than the Upgrade.
